Sarracenia ‘Red Tide’
Sarracenia ‘Red Tide’ is a dramatic hybrid pitcher plant prized for its intense red coloration and bold upright form. The tall trumpet-shaped pitchers often develop rich shades of crimson, burgundy, and deep red that can intensify in strong sunlight. Fine veining and a well-formed hood add to the plant’s striking appearance, giving the traps a powerful presence in the bog garden.
Like other North American pitcher plants, the tubular leaves function as specialized insect traps. Nectar and vivid coloration attract insects to the rim of the pitcher where they slip into the tube and are digested in the fluid contained within. This remarkable adaptation allows the plant to thrive in the nutrient-poor soils typical of bog habitats.
Throughout the growing season, Sarracenia ‘Red Tide’ produces an impressive clump of dark, colorful pitchers that rise above the mossy surface of the bog. Its bold color and vigorous growth make it a standout addition to carnivorous plant collections, outdoor bog gardens, and container bog planters. In early spring, graceful nodding flowers appear before the new pitchers emerge.
