Sarracenia ‘Potty Mouth’
Sarracenia ‘Potty Mouth’ is a bold and memorable hybrid pitcher plant known for its dramatic coloration and wide, expressive pitcher openings. The upright tubular pitchers typically develop rich shades of green, crimson, and burgundy, often highlighted by strong veining and a deep, contrasting throat. The broad mouth of the pitcher gives the plant its humorous name and adds to its striking visual character in the bog garden.
Like other North American pitcher plants, the leaves are modified into elegant insect traps. Nectar and vivid coloration attract insects to the rim of the pitcher where they lose their footing and slide into the fluid-filled tube below. There the prey is digested, providing nutrients that allow the plant to thrive in the nutrient-poor soils of its natural bog habitat.
Throughout the growing season, Sarracenia ‘Potty Mouth’ produces an impressive clump of colorful pitchers that rise above the mossy surface of the bog. Its distinctive form and bold coloration make it an eye-catching feature in outdoor bog gardens, container bogs, and carnivorous plant collections. In early spring, graceful nodding flowers appear before the new pitchers emerge.
