Sarracenia ‘Ares’ is a bold and dramatic hybrid pitcher plant named for the ancient god of war, and its appearance lives up to the name. The plant produces tall, upright pitchers that often develop intense shades of crimson, burgundy, and deep red, sometimes heavily veined and contrasted with green lower portions. The strong coloration and commanding structure give the plant a powerful presence in the bog garden.

The tubular leaves serve as elegant insect traps. Nectar and vivid coloration draw insects to the rim of the pitcher where they slip inside and are digested in the fluid contained within the tube. This remarkable adaptation allows the plant to thrive in the nutrient-poor soils typical of natural bog habitats.

During the growing season, Sarracenia ‘Ares’ forms an impressive clump of tall, colorful pitchers that rise above the mossy surface of the bog. Its intense coloration and vigorous growth make it a striking feature in carnivorous plant collections, outdoor bog gardens, and container bog planters. In early spring, graceful nodding flowers appear before the new pitchers develop.
