Why You’ll Love It

Bring more color and life to the parts of your yard you’re ready to mow less.

Earthwise Midwest Wildflower Mix combines 19 varieties, including Purple Coneflower, Black-Eyed Susan, New England Aster, and Perennial Lupine. Annual flowers can provide early color while perennials develop roots and contribute to the display in later seasons.

Create a flowering border, add a pollinator planting along a fence, or transform an unused section of lawn into a meadow-style landscape. Start small or give your flowers room to spread across a larger prepared area.

Expected Height & Mowing

Many flowers grow approximately 1–3 feet tall. New England Aster can reach approximately 3–6 feet, rising above shorter plants as the planting matures.

Allow flowers to grow without routine mowing during their blooming season.

Planting Overview

1. Prepare Your Space
Remove existing grass, weeds, and debris. Lightly loosen and smooth the soil surface to create a clean seedbed. Good preparation helps reduce competition while young wildflowers establish.

2. Spread & Press
Broadcast seed evenly using the application rate for your selected package. Gently press the seed into the soil surface for firm contact, avoiding deep burial.

3. Water & Establish
Water gently and keep the seeded surface evenly moist during germination. As roots develop, gradually transition to deeper, less frequent watering.

See our Wildflower Planting Instructions for planting timing and preparation details.

Germination & Establishment

Some annuals may begin sprouting within 1–4 weeks under suitable conditions. Perennial emergence can take longer because of seed dormancy requirements.

Expect the planting to develop in stages. Annual color can appear first, with perennial growth and flowering increasing over later seasons. Remove competing weeds during establishment and provide supplemental water during extended dry spells.

Complete Your Landscape

Pair a dedicated wildflower planting with an EcoSeed lawn or clover lawn. Defined borders and mowed paths give your flowers space to grow while keeping the surrounding landscape easy to enjoy.
