Why You’ll Love It
A beautiful lawn. Less mowing.
Earthwise Low Grow blends soft fine fescues with White Dutch and Red Carpet clovers for a natural lawn that suits a less frequent mowing routine.
Start by adding seed to the lawn you already have, or establish a new lawn on prepared soil. The grasses provide fine-bladed texture while clover adds leafy coverage and seasonal flowers.
Choose the appearance that suits your yard: occasional mowing creates a neater lawn, while longer growth develops a softer, more relaxed look.
Where It Grows Best
- Sun Exposure: Full sun to partial shade
- Best Uses: Residential lawns, lightly to moderately used outdoor spaces, and natural lawn areas
- Soil: A prepared seedbed with good drainage and reliable moisture during establishment
- Earthwise Climate Regions: Listed for all regions in our guide; planting timing, summer performance, and watering needs vary with local conditions
Fine fescues are cool-season grasses. Hot, dry sites may need additional irrigation, and dense shade can reduce the clover component.

Planting & Care
Adding Seed to an Existing Lawn
Mow the existing grass lower without scalping it, remove clippings and debris, and rake to expose soil between the grass. Spread seed at the recommended overseeding rate and gently press it into contact with the soil.
Overseeding introduces new plants alongside your existing grass. Results depend on preparation, growing conditions, and competition from the lawn already in place.
Starting on Bare Soil
Remove weeds and competing vegetation. Lightly loosen and smooth the soil, broadcast seed at the recommended bare-soil rate, and gently press it into the surface.
Watering
Keep the seeded surface evenly moist while grass and clover germinate and establish. As roots develop, gradually transition to deeper, less frequent watering. Supplemental water may still be needed during prolonged heat or drought.
Choosing Your Coverage
Bare-soil planting requires more seed per square foot than overseeding an existing lawn.
See our Overseeding Guide and Alternative Lawn Planting Instructions for step-by-step help.
What to Expect
Germination & Coverage
Allow approximately 2–5 weeks for mixed emergence under suitable conditions. Clover and fine fescues can sprout at different times.
Early growth is followed by gradual thickening. Allow 1–2 growing seasons for a mature mixed lawn, with occasional reseeding where needed.
Less Mowing. More Enjoying.
Low Grow combines fine fescues with White Dutch and Red Carpet clovers for a soft, natural lawn designed for less frequent mowing.
Enjoy the clover’s seasonal flowers and pollinator benefits, or give the lawn an occasional trim for a neater finish. For a maintained lawn, aim for a mowing height around 3–4 inches.
