Liriope 'Royal Purple' Bare Root Plants (Minimum Quantity: 50 Plants)
Liriope 'Royal Purple' is a Dutch import, introduced into the U.S. in 1980 by Andre Viette Nurseries of Virginia and Carroll Gardens of Maryland. 'Royal Purple' reminds us of a flowing robe, or waves of water. Its rich, purple flower racemes are densely borne.
In fact, the genus was named for Liriope, the "wave-blue water-nymph" and mother of Narcissus. Narcissus, you will recall, was the mythological character who adored himself way too much.
At any rate, 'Royal Purple' tends to clump, but should fill in quickly if planted more closely.
Bare root plants such as these are the most economical way to cover large areas.
