Biennial with Purple Flowers and Silver Seed Pods

Money Plant, also called Honesty, is a biennial grown for pink-purple spring flowers and translucent, coin-shaped seed pods used in dried arrangements. Bees, butterflies, and other pollinators may visit the flowers.

Growing Conditions

  • Light: Full sun to part shade
  • Type: Biennial
  • Hardiness Zones: 5–9
  • Height: About 2–3 feet
  • Bloom: Late spring to early summer

Germination Notes

Sow seeds about 1/8–1/4 inch deep in moist, well-drained soil. Fall sowing outdoors is suitable for this biennial, and spring sowing is also possible under cool, moist conditions. A prolonged cold treatment is not always necessary for germination. Plants typically form foliage in their first growing season and flower in the second; they may self-seed where conditions permit.

Cut and Dried Flower Use

You can cut flowering stems fresh, or dry mature papery seed pods for arrangements.

Seed collection year: 2026.
