Few flowers announce the return of spring quite like crocuses. Often pushing through cold soil—and sometimes even a late dusting of snow—these cheerful little bulbs bring welcome color to the garden when much of the landscape is still waking from winter.

Plant crocus bulbs in fall in well-drained soil and a sunny to partly shaded location. They are excellent for flower beds, borders, rock gardens, woodland edges, beneath deciduous trees and shrubs, and naturalized in lawns. Plant them in generous groups for the greatest visual effect, and allow established clumps to multiply over the years.
Crocuses are easy to grow, require little maintenance once established, and provide an important early-season source of nectar and pollen for bees and other emerging pollinators.
