Carex 'Ice Dance' is a bright and graceful solution plant for two common problems: soggy soil and shade. Though it will grow in average soil, it thrives in moist to wet conditions, and shade or part shade. Use 'Ice Dance' for ground cover, a lawn substitute, borders, edging, rain gardens, water gardens, bog areas and to brighten up shady spots. Comments: Carex morrowii 'Ice Dance' is a bright and graceful solution plant for two common problems: soggy soil and shade. The variegated, dark green foliage is evergreen in the South and semi-evergreen in the North.  Arching leaf blades, edged in white, are 1/2" wide, 12"-14" long.  Carex 'Ice Dance' spreads slowly and evenly by rhizomes, not clumping like most sedges.  Though it will grow in average soil, it thrives in moist to wet conditions.  Carex 'Ice Dance' loves shade or part shade.  If grown in sunny and dry locations, be sure to keep it well watered. Cut back foliage late Winter for a neat appearance.  Use 'Ice Dance' for ground cover, a lawn substitute, borders, edging, rain gardens, bog areas and to brighten up shady spots. It's a ground cover of choice for swampy, woodland gardens and around streams and pond banks.  Mature height is 12", spread 12"-15". 

Carex is known to host many butterfly species. Among them are Black Dash and Northern Broken Dash, several skippers such as the Broad-Winged SkipperDion SkipperDun SkipperTawny-edged Skipper, and the Common Wood Nymph butterfly. Host plants provide food and sheltered places for egg-laying.
